The European Employment Lawyers Association (EELA) was founded in 1998. EELA has the following aims:
France - Avocats D’Entreprise en Droit Social – AVOSIAL
Avosial is a French organisation for lawyers whose primary activity is advising on labour law matters and who mainly represent companies. It hosts discussion groups on a regular basis, a yearly seminar and an annual social event. Avosial surveys its members’ opinions about recent reforms and legislation and aims to fulfill a consultative role with regard to the French Administration, notably the Ministry of Employment, in order to encourage greater co-operation between the legal profession and law-makers. For example, Avosial’s voice played a significant part in the enactment of recent legislation that has made possible the termination of an employment contract by mutual agreement.
It also organises press conferences to communicate more efficiently with journalists.A list of members is provided on the website. (Please note that Avosial does not conduct checks on its members, or provide any assurance regarding their skills and experience or the quality of service they provide).
Germany - Arbeitsgemeinschaft Arbeitsrecht im Deutschen AnwaltVerein
The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Arbeitsrecht im Deutschen AnwaltVerein (Labour Law Group of the German Bar Association) comprises some 2,800 lawyers with a special interest in labour law. It has existed since 1981. Its members act both for employers and employees, and the organization is politically independent. Its primary aim is to foster contacts between its members and to provide professional training. The most important platforms are the annual spring and autumn conferences. In addition, all members receive a quarterly review informing them on important employment tribunal decisions as well as legislative developments. The organization tries to be as open as possible and has therefore no formal requirements for membership (other than being duly enrolled in the German Bar). In particular, members do not have to demonstrate how long they have been practising employment law and to what extent.
The main feature of the organization's website is a search function, which allows search for members according to their sub-specialization, town/region and language skills, as well as knowledge of foreign labour law systems.
Italy - Avvocati Giuslavoristi Italiani – AGI
AGI is the Italian Employment Lawyers Association. AGI was founded in 2002 and is active throughout the Italian Territory. AGI has over 700 members. AGI members are lawyers, acting for both employers and employees, who have been qualified as lawyers for at least six years, or have passed the final exam at the Employment Law High Training School of AGI, and predominantly practise employment law in Italy. A list of members is included on the AGI website. AGI promotes the study and practice of employment and pension law to highly specialised and qualified standards, recognition of the legal specialism and the safe-guarding of the legal profession, and provides independent opinion on employment and pension law proposals. AGI also promotes the development and verification of the professional skills of its members and provides them with continuing legal education and training. AGI has set up the Employment Law High Training School which offers training of two years’ duration to lawyers who wish to specialise in this area of practice.
