Renewing Your Membership

ELA membership runs from 1st January to 31st December. Members will have until the end of March 2011 to renew their membership for 2011, after which un-renewed memberships will lapse.

Important changes to ELA membership

Following changes to the ELA constitution at the May 2008 AGM, there are now only two categories of ELA membership as follows:

Full member - £80 per year (members in the voluntary sector £20 per year)

Qualified lawyers who practice employment for 25% of their time in the British Isles;
Foreign lawyers who provide employment law advice for 25% or their time under the jurisdiction of the British Isles.

Associate member - £40 per year

Trainee lawyers who practice employment for 25% of their time in the British Isles;
Foreign lawyers who provide employment law advice for 25% of their time under any jurisdiction other than the British Isles;
Qualified lawyers engaged in research of employment law or the academic or vocational teaching of employment law for 25% of their time in the British Isles;
Members of the judiciary with experience in the practice of employment law in the British Isles.

The only difference between full and associate membership is that associate members do not have a vote in the affairs of ELA and are not eligible to stand for election to the ELA Management Committee (as is currently the case). All other membership benefits are the same.

ELA membership form

The corporate member category no longer exists. Instead, the team of people you declared under your corporate membership will become either full or associate members in their own right.

There is a discount scheme available for organisations with five or more members.

ELA membership subscription fees are zero rated for VAT.

Correspondent Members

Annual fee: £50

Voluntary sector organisations with a material interest in employment law may benefit from all ELA services as correspondents. The annual fee allows for unlimited number of individuals within the organisation to benefit from ELA services. The requirement for a legal qualification for the individuals you declare to us is waived for correspondents.
