The ELA Leeds Training Day will deliver 9 sessions of relevant and helpful training, along with networking breaks, food and refreshments.
The event will open with a session from Employment Judge Ayre who will be providing a HMCTS update, along with ideas on how members can help the ET themselves. A great opportunity to hear from and put questions to a respected local Judge
We will close the event with a keynote session from the ELA Chair, Caspar Glyn KC who was elected in May 2024.
The programme has been put together by Marie Walsh, ELA Regional Rep for Yorkshire & Humberside; the Y&H regional committee and ELA members within the region to ensure the sessions are relevant, inclusive and includes content which will be helpful to all levels of membership. You will find session details set out below and these will continue to be enhanced as we move towards the event in October. The venue is the very accessible DoubleTree by Hilton Leeds City Centre, Granary Wharf, 2 Wharf Approach, Leeds LS1 4BR.
There will also be an opportunity to network afterwards for members who chose to do so in the Sky Lounge.

Fire and rehire is one of the hottest topics in employment law. Although the contractual mechanism of dismissal and re-engagement has been around for many years, public scrutiny has increased hugely since the pandemic. In this session, Clare will examine the current state of the law against the backdrop of these developments, including the statutory Code of Practice on dismissal and re-engagement, having co-chaired ELA’s response to the consultation on the draft Code. We will then look at potential future developments under a Labour government, and what the practical implications will be for employers and employees / their representatives.
