Many people choose to seek therapy to help with problems they are experiencing but, when reaching out for help, find a bewildering array of different providers and get lost in a sea of unfamiliar acronyms and words.  It can be complicated and scary.  This session aims to explain at least some of what you may find if you seek therapy in the future. We will briefly define the main therapies, qualifications and titles you are likely to come across. We will also try to give you a few pointers as to where to look and the sorts of things to look out for.

The session will cover:

  • What are the differences between different kinds of mental health professionals – from counsellors to therapists, psychotherapists, clinical vs counselling psychologists, and psychiatrists?
  • How do you find and choose a reputable therapist?
  • What do the different modalities of therapy involve?
  • How do you know which form of therapy is right for you (and does it matter)?

This session will open with a discussion of the questions above, with the intention of providing useful and clear guidance for participants.  However, it is also intended to be interactive with plenty of time for questions.

This webinar is free of charge.
