The evening is designed to give junior ELA members (Mentees) the chance to speak to some senior employment lawyers (Mentors) for at least seven minutes, with the opportunity to have a drink and network at the end.

The purpose of the event is to provide Mentees and Mentors with an opportunity to meet and grow their network in a relaxed and fun environment with a view to developing support amongst peers, contacts and ongoing mentoring opportunities.

The event is free of charge.

Who can get involved?
Mentors: Senior Associates, Senior Counsel, Partners, KCs, Employment Judges, Consultants and retired employment lawyers. ELA is hoping to enrol Mentors from a range of different backgrounds, experience and career paths who can spare some of their time to impart their experience and knowledge.

Mentees: ELA members who are 5 years PQE and under.

How The Event Works - Speed Mentoring
We hope to give Mentees the opportunity to speak to as many Mentors as possible in the allocated time. If the event runs to the timetable, each Mentor will see eight Mentees.

Mentors will have a seat assigned to them, they will remain seated and Mentees will move one place every seven minutes. An announcement will be made to signal when each seven-minute period is up.

We will provide the Mentees with a link to Mentors' online profiles so they can prepare questions in advance of the event. A number of mentees will want to ask Mentors about career progression, which may entail moving firms or changing career paths. We would ask everyone to ensure that such conversations are kept completely confidential. Mentees should be particularly mindful of their duties of confidentiality to their firms.

Networking
There will be an opportunity for group networking over tea and coffee at the end of the formal speed mentoring element of the evening.

After the event
The event should assist Mentees in broadening their professional network and Mentors are encouraged to share their contact details with attendees if they wish. Mentors have not offered any commitment to meet or correspond with Mentees after the event. If individual Mentors and Mentees both choose to do so, they may of course agree to contact each other after the networking event but ELA will not offer support or assistance, or accept any responsibility, in that regard.

This event is organised by ELA's Junior Lawyer Representative, Hannah Lynn, BDBF LLP and ELA’s Junior Member at Large, Cerys Mather, DAC Beachcroft LLP.
