The Directors are the members of the Management Committee who are listed here.

These Terms ("Terms") govern your use of the Employment Lawyer's Association ("ELA")  website.  By using the website you are indicating your acceptance of these Terms. ELA may change the Terms at any time by putting amended Terms on the website.  If you do not accept these Terms please do not use this website.

Intellectual Property

ELA owns intellectual property rights in the website.  This includes, without limitation, copyright, database rights, rights in designs, rights in know-how, patents and rights in inventions, whether registered or unregistered.  Unless otherwise stated, the copyright in the content published on this website is the property of ELA.

All software used on this website is the property of ELA or our software suppliers and is protected by copyright laws.  Unless the conditions below are met, the content of the website may not be modified, reproduced in whole or in part without the prior written permission of  ELA.

You may copy materials from the website on the following conditions:

  • you must only use the materials for your own personal use and must not distribute them to any third party;
  • you must not use the material for commercial or business purposes;
  • material must be reproduced accurately and must retain any copyrights which are contained in the original material; and
  • material must not be used in a derogatory manner or in any manner which may adversely affect ELA's business or reputation.

Trade Marks

The ELA logo and other marks used on  the website are ELA's trade marks and may not be used without ELA's prior written permission. You may not use any meta tags or any other hidden text using ELA's names or trade marks without prior written permission.

Use of Association’s name

No member is entitled to print or otherwise place the name of the Association or refer to the Association or membership of the Association on headed paper, compliment slips, brochures. No member is to refer to membership as a professional qualification. However members may mention membership of the Association in the normal course of business in a curriculum vitae or legal directories.

Information Gathering

You may not use any data gathering or data extraction tools, such as robots, on the ELA website without the prior written permission of ELA.

While ELA has taken care in preparing the contents of the website and except as set out below, ELA does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage arising out of or in connection with the use of the website including, without limitation, indirect or consequential loss or damage, loss of anticipated revenues, loss of business opportunities, loss of goodwill, loss of data or damage to reputation. Member Postings

Members will be able to publish, post, upload or disseminate ("Post") material on the website, in the form of comments on articles and information featured on the website, via the Members section of the website.

As these comments will be Posted by other contributors, who are not employees or agents of ELA, ELA is not responsible for this content and is providing access to such content and allowing you to Post messages on the website as an information service to you.  ELA does not check that information Posted on the website by third party contributors is accurate or legally correct and therefore ELA does not warrant that any such information contained within the website is accurate and/or complete and/or constitutes an accurate statement of current law.

You are responsible for your own Postings and any consequences thereof.  You agree only to Post contributions related to the issues raised by articles featured on the website and which comply with the content standards set out below.  You must comply with the spirit of the content standards as well as the letter.  The content standards apply to any and all material which you Post or otherwise contribute to the website.

You warrant that any contributions that you make to the website will comply with the content standards and you hereby agree to indemnify us for any breach of that warranty.

Content Standards

Postings made by you must be:

  • accurate (where they state facts); and
  • genuinely held (where they state opinions).

You shall not use any information from the website or use the website to:

  • Post any inappropriate, defamatory, abusive, offensive, inflammatory, menacing, obscene or illegal contributions;
  • promote any illegal activity;
  • defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights (including rights of privacy and publicity) of others;
  • Post any material that infringes the intellectual property rights (including but not limited to any patent, copyright or trade mark) of any third party;
  • Post any communications which contain details about individuals making it possible for others to identify those individuals;
  • Post any files that contain viruses, corrupted files or any other similar software or programs that may damage the operation of a third party's computer;
  • promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age;
  • advertise or offer to sell goods or services for any commercial purpose;
  • download any file Posted by another member which you know or should reasonably know cannot be legally distributed in such a manner;
  • impersonate another person or entity or misrepresent your identity or affiliation with another person or entity;
  • falsify or delete any author attributions, legal or other proper notices or proprietary designations or labels or the original source of materials contained in a contribution which is Posted in the Members section; or
  • restrict or inhibit any other user from using the website.

Breach of Content Standards

If you are in contravention of the content standards or usage restrictions on the website ELA may (without limitation) take any of the following actions:

  • issue a warning to you;
  • suspend your access to the website; and/or
  • issue legal proceedings against you for payment of damages and reimbursement of all costs on an indemnity basis (including, but not limited to, reasonable administrative and legal costs) resulting from such breach.

ELA does not control the materials posted on the website (unless these are posted by an employee or agent of ELA).  ELA will use its reasonable endeavours to monitor and moderate the content Posted by Members and reserves the right at all times to edit or remove (without notice) any information in whole or in part from the website at its sole discretion without any liability for such editing or removal.  However, ELA cannot guarantee that it will find and remove or edit inappropriate content immediately, although it will use its reasonable endeavours to do so as soon as reasonably practicable.

ELA does not endorse, support, represent or guarantee the truthfulness, accuracy or reliability of materials posted on the website or endorse any opinions Posted on the website by Members.  You acknowledge that any reliance on materials Posted on the website by Members will be at your own risk. 

Communications on the Website

You acknowledge that the website is a public and not private form of communication and that therefore others may read your Postings without your knowledge.  You must be careful if you are disclosing personal identifying information about yourself and/or your business.  Any communication posted by you on the website is considered not to be confidential.

By posting materials on the website you automatically assign the copyright in those materials to ELA and waive all moral rights in such materials (meaning the rights conferred by Part I Chapter IV of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 and any modification or re-enactment thereof).

Find an Employment Lawyer

The "find an employment lawyer" facility on the website allows you to search for an employment lawyer.  Members of the Employment Lawyers Association is available to all solicitors and barristers who say that they practise predominantly or to a material extent in employment law (at least a quarter of their working time).

Inclusion in the ELA membership is not an endorsement that a particular lawyer is a suitable person to advise you nor is it a professional qualification. We hope that access to our membership list will assist you in making a choice of lawyer which is always a matter for a client's judgement.

Pro Bono Service

ELA will from time to time post details of pro bono opportunities on the website which are provided by various independent pro bono agencies.  Pro bono opportunities will be allocated to Members that contact ELA to express an interest on a first come first served basis, subject to any necessary conflict checks.  ELA acts as a intermediary between Members and the various independent agencies but does not make any judgements about the skills and abilities of Members which are referred to those agencies.

Advertising Job Vacancies

Employers and recruiters that pay the relevant fee (currently £100 plus VAT) to ELA will be permitted to submit advertisements for job vacancies ("Advertisements") for Posting on the website.  ELA will use its reasonable endeavours to Post Advertisements on the website within 3 days of receipt of the Advertisement or payment of the fee, whichever is the later where possible, subject to any technical difficulties or other circumstances beyond ELA's control, including (without limitation) staff shortages.  ELA may review Advertisements prior to or after Posting and reserves the right to refuse to Post Advertisements, or to edit or remove Advertisements, which contain inappropriate content. All Advertisements must comply with the content standards set out above and will not be Posted if this is not the case, in which case the fee will be refunded.  Advertisements will remain on the website for two months from the date of Posting or until the vacancy is filled, whichever is the earlier.  You must notify ELA immediately once the vacancy is filled so that the website can be updated.  ELA is not a party to the dealings between employers and recruiters and candidates and candidates will contact employers and recruiters direct.

Training and Events

ELA may place details of training courses and other events that it offers from time to time on the website.  You will be able to book and pay for events on the website, subject to the terms and conditions of booking, which are set out on the relevant pages of the website.

Please note that your name and company name will be shown on a delegates list which will be made available to the speakers and attendees for the course booked. If you do not wish for your details to be included on the list please note this in the Special Requirements field at the time of booking.


If any provision in these Terms is declared void or unenforceable by any court or other body of competent jurisdiction, or is otherwise rendered so by any applicable law, such provision shall to the extent of such invalidity or unenforceability be deemed severable and all other provisions of these Terms not affected by such invalidity or unenforceability shall remain in full force and effect.


No delay or failure by ELA in enforcing any provision in these Terms shall be deemed to be a waiver or create a precedent or in any way prejudice ELA's rights under these Terms.

Jurisdiction and Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England. Any dispute arising under these terms and conditions shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England.
