Drinking on Duty – Should We Call Time on the Workplace Drinking Culture? Part of ELA’s Wellbeing for Employment Lawyers Series

“Go on, just have one!’

“Don’t be so boring!”

“Are you pregnant?”

Alcohol is the only drug we have to make excuses not to take!

In this one-hour webinar, Janet Hadley, founder of Choose Sunrise, will be sharing her personal story about ending her love affair with wine, with a focus on the impact that the workplace has had on her drinking career. With a pragmatic and non-judgemental approach, Janet will bring you some of the latest research around alcohol, how it works on your body and brain and some of the best practice initiatives that the most progressive employers are adopting now to create a sober inclusive workplace, where everybody feels safe.

Andrew Sugarman, who heads up the employment team at Parklane Plowden Chambers, will discuss some of the legal issues facing employers dealing with workplace alcohol issues, such as whether alcohol misuse by employees should be treated as a conduct, capability or disability issue, the importance of workplace alcohol policies and issues of indirect discrimination

 You’ll leave this webinar with:

  • The latest data around drinking behaviour in the UK
  • An understanding of what it feels like to find yourself in the ‘grey area drinker’ zone
  • An appreciation of the importance of making changes in the workplace
  • Some practical tips that you can put in place to promote sober inclusivity today
