Mirza is "Top Ranked" in Chambers and Partners Directory and also ranked in Legal 500 for expertise in Employment Law and Public & Administrative Law.

Mirza is nationally recognised as an expert in local authority law and governance, with over 26 years in-house local government experience. From 2000 – 2011, he was the Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Director of Governance of Birmingham City Council. During 2009/10, he was also the President of the Association of Council Secretaries and Solicitors.

In addition to having an LLM from Leicester University and being the General Editor of "Lexis Nexis' Local Authority Employment Law, Practice & Procedure", Mirza has a thriving employment law practice which includes giving advice and appearing regularly, as an accomplished advocate, before Employment Tribunals - for Claimants and Respondents, alike (including multiple claimants and respondents) - in relation to complex multi-day trials relating to, for example, unfair dismissals, constructive unfair dismissals, redundancies, TUPE, discrimination (race, sex and disability), harassment and victimisation cases.

In March 2017, he was recognised as a winner in the Finance Monthly - Law Awards category of "Government and Public Services - lawyer of the Year UK". In July 2013, he was also short-listed for “Lawyer Monthly” Legal Awards 2013 (Employment Law category).

He is also able to take direct instructions from members of the public under the Bar's Public Access Rules.

As an employed barrister from 1985-2011 (over 26 years), Mirza has had a number of cases reported in relevant publications dealing with the full range of local authority cases. Some of these cases were decided by the House of Lords (as it then was) and included major Judicial Reviews, for example, in relation to Single Status, Equal Pay and discrimination.

Mirza was also the General Editor of “Butterworth’s Knight’s Guide to Public Procurement Law and Practice” from 2007-2014. He has, over the last two decades, written a number of articles on ethical and corporate governance, employment, EU Directives & UK Procurement Regulations, Compulsory Competitive Tendering, Human Rights Act 1998 and on TUPE (the Transfer of Undertaking Regulations).
